‘Perks of Being a Wallflower’ gets R rating, pending appeal

“The MPAA has slapped an R rating on “The Perks of Being a Wallflower” for teen drug and alcohol use and some sexual references. Summit Entertainment apparently will appeal or say good-bye to all of those young fans of the popular book and actress Emma Watson and her co-stars.

When Stephen Chbosky, who wrote the novel and directed the movie, was in town, he told me he was aiming for a PG-13 rating. “I would find it very sad if the book could be available to a 13-year-old but the movie could not.”

His coming-of-age story stars Watson, Logan Lerman, Nina Dobrev, Ezra Millerand others. It’s set in Pittsburgh and was filmed here a year ago.”
